The great throne room at the palace in Bale stood empty save for the king himself who paced before his throne. He had received the news this morning from his ministers that the people of the eastern tribes had begun their push into his kingdom and the first casualty of this push was the town of Seles. Their sudden appearance and unexpected strength had cut the soldiers of the third knighthood who had been deployed to the area off from their return route to Bale. Futhermore, the knights who had managed to break away to bring him news of these happenings had been severely wounded by the Easterners during their escape. One had not survived the journey, the second had died upon arrival. Their deaths hung heavily upon the heart of the king, but that was for another time.

As of three days ago the town of Seles was still standing. The Easterners had surrounded the town and no one, be it man, woman, child, or knight, could leave the town or the surrounding area without being struck down, but as far as Albert knew the town itself still stood and the people were still alive. He knew little more than that and could think of no way to get more information short of sending in another knighthood to observe the situation. However, that course of action could itself lead to disaster.

Albert sighed and ran a hand wearily over his face.
Current Location: Capitol City Bale, Serdio

I hope you don't mind!
"Does something trouble you, Highness?"

That cool, impartial voice was one Albert would undoubtedly recognize. Though the owner was most likely presumed dead for those last five years. Lloyd strode in from the balcony that opened directly into the throne room wearing those familiar robes of the 'Hooded Man' to keep his identity on the trip down hidden.

Of course he knew of the troubles facing the kingdom, and those facing many others. If there was one thing Lloyd specialized at most it was information.

Not at all~
If the king was at all surprised he did not allow it to show on his face. He could not. Old enemies did not deserve the satisfaction of seeing the reactions they illicited. Instead, his demeanor calm and commanding, he replied.

"Many things trouble me, Lloyd not cheif among them your presence in my palace. I was under the impression that you had died in the Divine Tree, in fact we all were. Obviously you desired to keep your continued existance unknown, so why show your face now? Or am I to believe that you have had some hand in these dark times that have fallen upon my kingdom..?"
silverwingly on July 15th, 2009 09:36 pm (UTC)
Lloyd's face also remained carefully neutral, though it may have slipped into mild amusement for just a brief moment at the suggestion he was behind the raids on Serdio.

"The Eastern tribes do not subscribe to reason, as such they are less easily negotiated with. Besides, what reason could I possibly have to send them against you?" At that his expression did change, to a very vague smirk. Of course there could be many a reason to do such a thing, and many more not to. Not that Lloyd would be explaining himself until he was good and ready.

"As for my survival, former dictator Melbu Frahma's aim could have been better."

"What reason indeed," Albert turned with a flourish of his cape and strode back to his throne where he sat and stared down at the hooded Wingly with an expression of mild disdain. "What reason did you have to pit my uncle against me? What reason to get your own comrade killed? Naught but a misguided reason as I recall. And as for your survival...you speak very easily of that person, considering that he was the puppeteer pulling all your strings. Or will you deny that now as well?"
silverwingly on July 16th, 2009 01:42 am (UTC)
"Such hatred is not befitting the wise King of Serdio," Lloyd chided with disinterest, tilting his head to the side slightly. "It was greed and fear that drove your uncle to accept my offers, do not forget that such things can be used against you so easily, Highness." A warning, a threat? Both, perhaps. But with a vague gesture the Wingly moved on with the conversation.

"I deny nothing at all, nor do I deny that my reasons were clearly misguided. Regardless, I am not here to discuss past matters with you. If that were the case I would have sent a letter." A slight smirk, at that.

"Would that you had, and you misinterpret me, Lloyd. I do not hate you. No indeed. My feelings are closer to pity than anything else," Albert sat in silence for a moment regarding the man he had once trusted as his closest advisor. He stood and clasped his arms behind his back. "Very well, I shall humour you if that is your wish. Why are you here?"
silverwingly on July 16th, 2009 03:34 am (UTC)
Lloyd didn't react at all to the mention of pity, in truth it really didn't matter to him what the King thought of him. He'd done what he had to, unfortunate that it had ended so badly.

"Humor? Hardly, you could send me away and hear for yourself at a later time I am certain. Tell me, Highness, what do you know of the situation of the world?"
trueanddestined on July 16th, 2009 03:52 am (UTC)
Albert smirked slightly, he could not help himself. He recovered quickly and thought for a moment before replying, "Obviously you have some bit of information you think valuable as much to yourself as to me. You would not have come here otherwise. So...out with it."
silverwingly on July 16th, 2009 03:58 am (UTC)
Lloyd had been attempting to avoid repeating information Albert might already know, but somehow he doubted he'd caught wind of it yet. What with the turmoil in Serdio being so noisy, after all.

"Aside from the dramatic increase in savage animal attacks, Mayfil is releasing its souls." He let that hang there, to see if Albert understood what that may entail.
trueanddestined on July 16th, 2009 02:37 pm (UTC)
The king of Serdio stared down at the black hooded man as sudden comprehension dawned on him. He covered his mouth with a hand and turned away slightly. So this was what Emile had seen that had troubled her so. He turned back to Lloyd, his gaze piercing.

"Tell me what you know of Mayfil, Lloyd. Does it keep all its souls since the beginning of its creation or are some allowed to move on? From what we saw and experienced I was persuaded to believe the later. Even Rose and Shirley seemed convinced that that was what would happen, but even they could have been wrong."
silverwingly on July 16th, 2009 09:36 pm (UTC)
"At times souls are capable of unburdening themselves enough to move on, certainly. Even many more are finally taken into Hell beneath. However, I would not come to you were this a normal occurrence, the scale at which Mayfil is losing souls is... well, alarming." And that was saying something coming from Lloyd, he wasn't the type to be easily alarmed by strange happenings.

He watched the king intently, his initial reaction showed that perhaps he had heard something, or found the news alarming as well. "Unless something else is within liberating those souls, though I sensed no other presences there." Even if there was, it would have to be at a massive scale.
trueanddestined on July 22nd, 2009 04:18 am (UTC)
"This is alarming news indeed. The chaos which could result from this event alone is...nigh impossible to comprehend, but with the eastern uprising and the strange monsters which have begun to roam... It all must be connected somehow. Do you know what is becoming of these souls? Are they to be trapped here on this plane like the souls of the old Dragoons in Vellweb?" He peered at Lloyd and lifted an eyebrow, "I do not suppose that you are in fact one of the dispelled souls of Mayfil."
silverwingly on July 22nd, 2009 04:29 am (UTC)
If Lloyd were a man prone to laughter he certainly would have laughed at that moment, as it was he shook his head and made a show of loudly thumping his chest, to prove that he was indeed quite solid. "No, your Majesty, I am very much alive." Perhaps to Albert's disappointment.

"As for what is becoming of them, I do not know." Lloyd hadn't actually gone into Mayfil to find out. There were still too many there that knew him, and even those that didn't were burdened and angry enough to cause quite the headache.

Albert himself smiled slightly and nodded, "Of course," His amusement was only temporary. Troubled, he turned back to his throne and sat. "I supposed," he said after a moment's silence, "we must somehow find out," his eyes darted back to Lloyd. "I do not suppose you would be willing to return there..."
silverwingly on July 22nd, 2009 04:45 am (UTC)
"...I still would not enter the city." No, didn't look like Lloyd was willing to go quite to that extent to be helpful. He was silent a moment, considering.

"I may, however... be willing to have a look at the situation regarding Seles." That is, if the King could then be persuaded to go on a little quest, or arrange for one. At least that appeared to be what Lloyd was hinting at.
trueanddestined on July 22nd, 2009 04:48 am (UTC)
The corners of the king's mouth tightened. "In return for...What exactly?"
silverwingly on July 22nd, 2009 04:50 am (UTC)
"A brief investigation, that is all." Who better to have a look at the situation of the world than the Dragoons, those who defied Soa's fate?
trueanddestined on July 22nd, 2009 05:17 am (UTC)
"I see what you are saying," The king thought for a moment. "This matter does require investigation, however I am but a lone Dragoon. I've not been able to keep close track of the others these past years. I know only that Shana remains in Seles, now under siege, and Miranda in Deningrad. The others I know not of. And there is another flaw in your plan Lloyd. When we last went to Mayfil we were able to teleport there from Zenebatos, which were were only able to reach by teleporting from Aglis. Aglis was destroyed we have no means of reaching Zenebatos now and no means of getting to Mayfil. There are no teleportation devices like those left in all of Endiness that we might have access to."
silverwingly on July 22nd, 2009 05:25 am (UTC)
So the Moon Child remained... and in Seles no less. Unfortunate that the city was currently under siege, of course that had been what Lloyd was suggesting attempting to liberate. "...Not even in Ulara?" Lloyd hadn't been there for a while, and come to think of it wasn't entirely certain Albert knew where that was. But it was possible, they undoubtedly received aid from the other Winglies at some point.

Last he recalled though, there had been a couple of the more powerful teleporters remaining, they just had to be calibrated properly.

Albert nodded, "I considered that option. Even if they do, only Rose had the key to get into the city. It might be possible for us to go there and be recognized, though without her choker we may not even get their attention."
silverwingly on July 22nd, 2009 05:45 am (UTC)
The gates yet remained closed, especially after recent events. It made sense, though it was disappointing that the Winglies remained so reclusive. Lloyd sighed, and folded his arms over his chest while he fell silent, thinking. There had to be a way to get them there, though he wasn't certain he knew how any longer perhaps he could open the gate to Ulara...

"I may be able to get you in, to Ulara, I mean." Not that he really liked the thought of volunteering himself to work so directly towards this, if he could get them there he still wouldn't have to go into Mayfil.
trueanddestined on July 22nd, 2009 05:50 am (UTC)
Albert thought for a moment then nodded, "Very well, we will travel to Ulara and attempt to enter the city, after you have assisted the situation in Seles," Albert nodded again and stood. "While you are gone I will see what I can do about contacting the other Dragoons."
silverwingly on July 22nd, 2009 05:58 am (UTC)
Lloyd bowed slightly, he was still respectful after all. "Very well, Highness, I will do what I can." What an interesting situation he'd gotten himself into. Albert was cooperating though, and Lloyd was good on his word. He turned to head back out toward the balcony to take his leave. Best not to waste any time, who knew when the Eastern Tribes' forces would decide to break the stalemate.

He'd never imagined getting himself this deeply involved again, however whatever it took to reach his goals. Even if it did mean he might have to help them out for a while first. Hopefully the King would be successful in finding some of the others.

Once he was certain the Wingly had left, Albert slackened his stance and lifted a hand to massage the bridge of his nose were a headache was slowly building. It seemed he would once again have to leave his kingdom and shed his title to fulfill his role as a Dragoon. Though, he suddenly realized, it did not fill him with the same dread it had five years ago. He was certain now of his abilities as a Dragoon and he left his Kingdom in the very capable hands of his beloved Emille. Strengthened by these thoughts the King left the dais in search of minister Noish. He had Dragoons to find.
